The Wilaya lies on the border with the Dhahira region
and is around 225 kilometers from the Capital Muscat. Bahla contains Bahla Fort, a recently restored building which has been listed by UNESCO on its list of World Heritage and Culture Site. The Wilaya is surrounded by a 15 km wall that was built to protect the place from foreign invasions. Also in the area is the imposing Jibreen Fort, built by Imam Balarb Bin Sultan Bin Said Al Yarubi, to be his palace and a citadel during the wars. The Wilaya also has a number of other smaller forts and old and new Mosques, besides a number of Falajs and Water springs. Bahla's most famous industry is pottery making, also there are some local crafts such as , Jewellery, Sword, Khanjar making, weaving and Omani Halwa. Bahla pots are found in homes throughout the Sultanate and are a favorite souvenir with tourists. The pots are still made in the traditional manner. Intricate designs, some of which have been passed on through the generations and have local significance, are etched into the necks and bodies of these pots.
